This legendary, elusive morsel known as a Morel is a cult-classic of Midwesterners, but the word has gotten out! Morels grow throughout the continent, from Canada to Mexico, and have been popping up throughout the Lake Tahoe region.

Morels are easily the most delicious of all mushrooms with an earthy, nutty, forest flavor. They have a thin meaty texture and are not "slimy" like other mushrooms may be. Morels are the mushrooms for people who 'don't like mushrooms'!

While they are delectable, Morels also contain high amounts of antioxidants that may protect your body from free radicals that are often the cause of heart disease, Parkinson’s disease, Type 1, and Type 2 Diabetes. They also contain one of the highest amounts of Vitamin D of any edible mushroom!

At Tahoe Mushroom Company, we take the time and care to air dry our mushrooms to ensure they maintain the maximum amount of natural taste; a process that has been practiced for centuries which creates a highly concentrated product, packed with all the medicinal and immune-boosting properties of a fresh mushroom.

Dried mushrooms can be used in any recipe that calls for fresh mushrooms, and are some times even more decadent because they travel well, store easily and can be rehydrated in any kind of warm liquid (for 15-20 minutes), such as water wine, broth, cream, etc., giving your dishes an added layer of flavor!  They are even great to take on backpacking and camping trips to spice up your outdoor cooking!

Dried Morels are a great value as it take 8 pounds of fresh Morels to make 1 pound of dried Morels. They are a convenient solution to having morels all year long because you can dry them whole, and rehydrate them as you need them.  The dried morel reconstitutes very nicely, coming back to it’s original form and texture without losing an ounce of taste.

Our morels are wild-harvested, using no pesticides or chemicals of any type.

To Reconstitute: Soak in 2 cups of warm water or liquid per ounce of dried morels for 2 hours or overnight, or rehydrate them directly in your favorite sauce based dish! If simply rehydrating the mushrooms: when they are fully reconstituted, strain through a coffee filter or paper towel and retain the liquid for your recipe or future use.

Storage Tips: Store in a cool dark area, use within 24 months of receiving.
